Phone card business is not a promising one with limited opportunities of making profit. Some parents may prefer it for their kids and it might sell at summer camp stores as well. Besides that, it is hard to find a prospective market for phone card. It is more so an outdated business opportunity.
The two basic problems relating phone card business is that because of the lowered prices of airtime phone card service has become comparatively expensive. People prefer the effective services at lower rates. The competition is so stiff that even cell phone carrier’s provide prepaid offers. The condition worsens when you realize the facts that people taking it are the ones with bad credit. Thus, eventually the person doing the business is at a loss.
The merchant banks club Phone card business as having the "highest risks on the Internet fraudulence". Most newcomers find it difficult to procure a merchant account necessary to accept credit cards. Time has changed and so are the technologies. Earlier, the Diaspora mainly Africans used the phone card system to call to faraway places and found it hard to cope up with the bills. The situation changed with introduction of prepaid phone calling card and ready availability of home phones.
