An Internet kiosk is a small cyber café booth placed at public locations for public’s convenience and use. An Internet kiosk is equipped with the keyboard, a mouse and monitor. You can pay through the bill accepter or credit card.
The utility of a kiosk is multifold. You could use for a range of activities from conducting an e-transaction to printing a photo. The Internet kiosks are popular around the world. Internet kiosks are used extensively in Japan, so much so that their count most likely surpasses the populace.
Internet kiosks are of various types. Location of placement is the predetermining factor. A kiosk at the airport, for example, will have a metal base for the customer to stand on whereas at a coffee café the apparatuses could be set-up on a table.
Some Internet kiosks offer a host of services including reservations and information while some perform a vending machine function and still some others are free. The location for a kiosk is also crucial. Normally, the owner of the kiosk either pays the location owner a flat rent or gives him a cut out of the monthly income.
A word of caution would do well here; the business of setting up Internet kiosks can be risky. It is similar to setting up an Internet café – kiosk is just an appealing term.
Many people have lost money in this venture. The business has led to a proliferation of scamsters who dupe people into it. The idea does seem appealing and when informed of the (over-hyped) earning potential, naïve people rush into it.
After losing your money, it is difficult to even trace it out, forget getting it back. The Internet is a boon to this era and provides a plethora of opportunities. Why, would you risk all your money in such business? There are other ways to tap the Internet. As they say - “if it sounds, too good to be true-it perhaps is”.
